The Dua of Adam
رَبَّنَا ظَلَمْنَا أَنفُسَنَا وَإِن لَّمْ تَغْفِرْ لَنَا وَتَرْحَمْنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ
Transliteration
Rabbanā ẓalamnā anfusanā, wa in lam taghfir lanā wa tarḥamnā lanakūnanna mina'l-khāsirīn.
Translation
Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.
What this dua means
The first repentance in human history. Adam didn't blame anyone — he said 'we wronged ourselves,' then begged forgiveness and mercy.
When to read it
After any sin, big or small — the model way back to Allah.
Virtue
Allah taught Adam these very words, then forgave him (Qur'an 2:37) — the same words still open the same door.
