Dua of Distress

Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 6346

لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ الْعَظِيمُ الْحَلِيمُ، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَرَبُّ الْأَرْضِ وَرَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْكَرِيمِ

Transliteration

La ilaha illallahul-'adhimul-halim. La ilaha illallahu rabbul-'arshil-'adhim. La ilaha illallahu rabbus-samawati wa rabbul-ardi wa rabbul-'arshil-karim.

Translation

There is no god but Allah, the Great, the Forbearing. There is no god but Allah, Lord of the Mighty Throne. There is no god but Allah, Lord of the heavens, Lord of the earth, and Lord of the Noble Throne.

What this dua means

When distress closes in, you call on Allah by His greatness and His mercy together.

When to read it

Say it in moments of distress, fear, or overwhelming trouble.

Its virtue

It was the dua the Prophet turned to when distress struck him.
