Gratitude

Teach Me Gratitude

Source: Qur'an 27:19

Transliteration

Rabbi awzi'ni an ashkura ni'matakallati an'amta 'alayya wa 'ala walidayy, wa an a'mala salihan tardah, wa adkhilni birahmatika fi 'ibadikas-salihin.

Translation

My Lord, inspire me to be grateful for Your favor which You bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and to do righteousness You approve of — and admit me by Your mercy among Your righteous servants.

What this dua means

Prophet Sulaiman's dua: gratitude isn't automatic — you ask Allah to inspire it in you, for your blessings and your parents'.

When to read it

When counting your blessings, and as a daily gratitude habit.

Virtue

The dua of Sulaiman (peace be upon him) at the height of his kingdom — gratitude at the peak is the hardest and noblest kind.
