The Traveler's Dua

Translation
Allah is Greatest, Allah is Greatest, Allah is Greatest. Glory be to Him who subjected this to us, though we could not have subdued it; and to our Lord we will return. O Allah, we ask You in this journey of ours for righteousness and piety, and for deeds You are pleased with. O Allah, make this journey easy for us and shorten its distance. O Allah, You are the Companion in travel and the Guardian over family. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardships of travel, from gloomy sights, and from a bad return regarding wealth and family.
What this dua means
You start by glorifying Allah above the vehicle that carries you — then ask Him for an easy, blessed journey, and leave your family in His care.
When to read it
When setting out on any journey — car, plane, or train.
Virtue
