After Prayer

Ayat al-Kursi

Source: Qur'an 2:255

Transliteration

Translation

Allah — none has the right to be worshipped but He, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all. Neither drowsiness nor sleep overtakes Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they encompass nothing of His knowledge except what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.

What this dua means

The greatest verse of the Quran — a complete portrait of Allah: eternally alive, sustaining all, all-knowing, all-powerful.

When to read it

After every prayer, before sleep, and morning and evening.

Virtue

The Prophet ﷺ said: whoever recites it after every prayer, nothing stands between him and Paradise except death. (Sunan al-Nasa'i al-Kubra 9848) And whoever recites it at bedtime remains under Allah's protection until morning. (Bukhari 2311)
