Morning Remembrance

Source: Sahih Muslim 2723

Transliteration

Rabbi a'udhu bika minal-kasali wa su'il-kibar. Rabbi a'udhu bika min 'adhabin fin-nari wa 'adhabin fil-qabr.

Translation

We have reached the morning, and all dominion belongs to Allah. Praise is to Allah. None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone, without partner. To Him belongs dominion and to Him belongs praise, and He is over all things competent. My Lord, I ask You for the good of this day and the good of what follows it, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of this day and the evil of what follows it. My Lord, I seek refuge in You from laziness and the hardships of old age. My Lord, I seek refuge in You from punishment in the Fire and punishment in the grave.

What this dua means

A morning reset: you declare that the new day — and everything in it — belongs to Allah, praise Him, then ask for the day's good and protection from its harm.

When to read it

Every morning after Fajr. It takes under a minute and frames your whole day.

Virtue

Part of the Prophet's ﷺ daily morning remembrances — beginning the day with dhikr puts you under Allah's care for the day.
